Our Research

Our specialist in-house Working Groups are collaborating with industry leaders to research and develop the latest technologies and processes that can be incorporated into our designs.

Sustainability in the built environment is an ever-growing responsibility for practices across the UK, particularly as the construction industry contributes significantly to the world’s carbon emissions. Our Sustainability Working Group has been introduced to ensure that our staff remain aware of the continual changes surrounding environmentally-conscious design and how we can all make a difference to ensure a more sustainable future.

Sustainability

Health & Wellbeing

The Covid-19 pandemic has reinforced the importance of good mental and physical health for everyone in society. Coupled with this, there is an increasing awareness of how our environment can have an impact on our wellbeing. With most of us spending over 80% of our time indoors, the quality of the built environment has a huge role to play. As Architects, we have a responsibility to create places that positively impact on the people who live, work and study in them. Our Health and Wellbeing Working Group has been set up to ensure that we have access to the latest thinking and research in this field. We are then able to apply this knowledge to our designs, in order to deliver tangible benefits to our clients.

Modern Methods of Construction (MMC) have been promoted as a way of working effectively and efficiently to achieve more by using less. It centres around the use of off-site construction techniques that can benefit from factory conditions and mass production techniques. Our MMC Working Group has been introduced to ensure our staff remain aware of new innovations and to contribute to, and learn from, our clients and partners to ensure that modern methods of construction are driven forward to achieve cost effective and high quality design in the industry.

Modern Methods of Construction

Carbon Reduction

Many of our clients have set Net Zero Carbon or Carbon Neutral targets for their buildings and estates through either decarbonisation of their current estate, or through targeting Net Zero Carbon in new buildings or investments.

We are also on our own route to becoming Carbon Neutral by 2035, a target which, although complex and challenging, we believe to be realistic and genuine.
