Malcolm Arnold Academy

In partnership with the David Ross Foundation, the Malcolm Arnold Academy was founded in 2010, inheriting the existing and newly built building that was previously Unity College. In 2011 Northamptonshire County Council commissioned Willmott Dixon Construction, with GSSArchitecture appointed as Lead Consultant and Architect, to carry out extensive refurbishment and internal alterations, addressing the Academy’s inherent issues with the building since their transformation into an Academy. The project also included the demolition of disused buildings and remodelling of the grounds.

The £5 million scheme has transformed the heart of the school, creating a dynamic and inspiring space within the existing atrium. The space has become a multi-use facility, creating areas for break-out teaching, exhibition and dining for the whole Academy. The Sixth Form and Learning Resource Centre has been remodelled to provide dedicated facilities for students and to provide a showcase for the Academy to encourage pupils into further education. External alterations have provided the Academy with new sports pitches, trim trail and wildlife/horticultural teaching areas.
