A national education research centre – “LearnSpace” – has been completed in Corby. The centre is situated in a former industrial building and provides a range of internal and external spaces in which practical experiments can take place with different environments, layouts, equipment, and learning techniques.

The idea grew from a national exercise carried out by Partnership for Schools called ‘Space for Personalised Learning’. This project involved consulting and working with a range of schools, students, parents and professionals to establish how they currently operate and how they might operate differently.

The new research centre, which provides a unique opportunity for serious education research, is available to educationalists, building contractors, manufacturers of school equipment, and other interested professionals.

It provides a model project to show how these types of building can be converted into a variety of learning spaces. This is particularly relevant to Free Schools and Academies.
