Rowlett Road, Corby – Social Housing
GSSArchitecture were commissioned to design a development consisting of 27 affordable houses and flats in Corby, Northamptonshire. The site, which was previously occupied by a disused community youth club building, was partly owned by Corby Borough Council and partly by Woodnewton Primary School, and was sold to Leicester Housing Association following a collaborative feasibility study by GSS involving all three parties.
The design is modern, innovative and practical, whilst meeting the local housing needs. The project was designed to achieve Level 3 Code for Sustainable Homes and was completed on time and on budget, under a design and build form of contract. The modern approach and design were encouraged by the Council and LHA, offering residents a choice of contemporary accommodation configurations, which has benefited this area of Corby.
The proceeds of the sale of the site were ring fenced by the local Council to fund a new Children’s Centre at the school, which was also designed by GSS. Upon completion of the project, Leicester Housing Association stated that the quality of design creates a distinct identity.
