The Newton Building is a former Grade-II listed middle school which has been fully refurbished and remodelled to become a new technology and research centre. It provides an ideal environment for businesses to work closely with the university, and houses the university’s state-of-the-art 3D modelling and visualization technology facility, ‘NVision’. This includes a suite of immersive virtual reality technologies which complement their technical resources and extensive expertise.
The project involved substantial structural alterations including digging out the basement floors and underpinning the building. New services and ceilings were fitted throughout. There was an extension and a new lift, while the roof spaces were converted to a series of computer suites.
