We’re delighted that after almost 2 years of hard work, the Building Better Futures Initiative will be going live on Monday 8th February!
This exciting initiative is the result of a partnership with NEUPC, Bowmer and Kirkland, CITB, North East LEP, Tees Valley Combined Authority, Outreach North East & FutureMe and has three core aims:
- Raise aspirations
- Raise awareness of the breadth of career opportunities available within the construction industry
- Break down stereotypes associated with roles in the construction industry
Led internally by Jonathan Hunter, Partner at GSSArchitecture, the initiative represents one of the core values of the Practice, focusing on the training and guidance of the next generation of construction professionals.
A series of content has been produced which focuses on the Helix Development, where we delivered The Catalyst for Newcastle University, and the variety of roles that were carried out in order to transform this derelict site into a landmark city centre development. This content will be rolled out over the next 9 weeks, beginning in National Apprenticeship week and covering International Women’s Day & International Day of Women and Girls in Science.
The content, which includes a mixture of animations and video interviews, will be available across a range of digital platforms. Schools and other education institutes will be able to access the content in order to highlight not only the various roles available in the industry, but also the different routes that can be taken in order to begin a career in these roles. Supporting resource packs will also be available in order to provide further information to help guide young people and support their paths within the construction industry.
Keep an eye on the GSS & NEUPC social media channels to see all the content produced for this initiative, and to get a greater understanding on how the Building Better Futures Initiative is working to achieve its aims.
