We were delighted to attend the Official Opening Event for the Bill Bryson Library E-Café, one of five projects that GSSArchitecture have recently been involved with at Durham University. Alongside the Café, space within the Bill Bryson Library has been reorganised to create 200 additional study spaces and relocated the CIS Help Desk. Read more about this project here.
Other schemes carried out at the University include the refurbishment of the Jevons Building, which delivered refurbished and upgraded student accommodation, as well as an extension to the Junior Common Room Bar, offering sliding glazed doors allowing access to a new terraced area within the courtyard. The extension project was carried out to BREEAM Very Good standard in accordance with the University Sustainable Construction and Renovation Policy.
GSSArchitecture were also appointed by the University to lead a consultant design team to assist Collingwood College in developing the site between Collingwood College and South Road into a multi-use games area. The pitch was built thanks to a combination of funding from Collingwood students, Alumni Donors and Durham University. The pitch was officially opened in November 2018 by Newcastle United Manager, Rafa Benitez.
Completed in September 2018, our Harrogate Office also worked on the £1.4million Howlands remodelling scheme, ensuring the site was ready for use by John Snow College in 2018/19, and, in future, for use by Josephine Butler and Stephenson Colleges.
