GSSArchitecture has always maintained a working interest and involvement with the old parish churches of Northamptonshire and neighbouring counties. This tradition continues, with one of the Partners registered as a Diocesan Architect, and we continue to be responsible for the care of some 90 of the historic parish churches.
From carrying out quinquennial inspections to applications for Grant Aid and full liaison with English Heritage, we are able to provide expert assistance and advice. Not only do we assist with minor remedial works and repairs, but we also undertake the more sensitive and imposing tasks, when funds are available. For example we have recently completed major restoration of the entire fabric of several churches, including full repointing and repairs to the towers and spires. Work of this nature has to be precise and technically correct, and GSS has built up a depth of experience and knowledge.
Works have included:
•Preparing quinquennial inspection reports and arranging subsequent repairs.
•Repair work projects, including general external and internal masonry repointing, spire repointing, replacement/repairs to stone window tracery, stained glass windows, pew platforms and timber roofs, re-covering of lead roofs with various materials, improved external drainage schemes, replacement and new footpaths, rebuilding boundary walls and tree pruning.
•Partial rebuilding following fire.
•New w.c. facilities, either internally or in new extensions, including trench arch drainage disposal systems.
•New vestry screens.
•New ringing floors.
•New servery kitchenette facilities.
