University of Leeds – Houldsworth Engineering Building
The Faculty of Engineering is one of the largest faculties in the UK, grouping together five teaching and research schools with in excess of 3,500 students and 700 staff. The scheme comprised the complex refurbishment of the existing five-storey Houldsworth Building to internally reconfigure the spaces and ensure that the building is fit for delivering a modern engineering curriculum.
The development provides the faculty with new lecture theatres, research laboratories, meetings rooms, modern office space and a range of open plan and flexible teaching and learning zones.
GSSArchitecture were appointed as Architects and Lead Consultants for the project. In addition to the internal remodelling, the project included the complete replacement of all fenestration, reroofing of the majority of existing flat roof and fabric upgrades to improve energy efficiency.
