York Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust – New Dedicated Endoscopy Decontamination Unit
GSSArchitecture have been working with York Teaching Hospitals since 2010 and have developed a strong working relationship with them, having completed multiple projects. As part of York Hospital’s on-going strategic review of their GI Endoscopy Services, GSSArchitecture were appointed to remodel part of the 1960’s hospital building to accommodate a dedicated decontamination suite.
The project involved working closely with the end users, as well as the specialist Automatic Endoscope Reprocessing equipment suppliers, to develop a design that is both practical and compliant with NHS guidance.
The construction work took place within the live hospital working environment, directly adjacent to the main hospital ‘street’ and, as such, a lot of time and consideration was given to planning the phasing and potential site set-up prior to going out to tender. This helped to ensure a clear understanding across all parties about the practicalities associated with the scheme.
